Summer is here, and what better way to celebrate it than lounging in your hammock? Duct tape’s durability, strength and waterproof nature makes it the perfect material to fashion your hammock from. It is strong enough to carry your weight, will survive well in the garden during both rain and shine, and best of all – it is environmentally friendly!

What you will need:

  • 2 wooden rods – think of the diameter of a broom handle
  • D’Afrique duct tape – of course!
  • Rope
  • Drill with 6 mm drill bit

What you will need to do:

Place the rods 220 cm apart from one another. Put a strip of duct tape between the two poles, then repeat with another strip of tape with the sticky side in the other direction, so they stick together – and won’t get stuck to you! Keep laying down your strips – first perpendicular to the rods, and then parallel to the rods, until you have created the bed of your hammock. Once you are done, all you need to do is drill holes in the wooden rods, attach the ropes and voila!

When you aren’t lounging on your new hammock you will probably want to hit the beach, and for that you need the perfect accessory to carry all your books, towels and snacks – a handy, waterproof beach bag made from duct tape.

What you will need:

  • D’Afrique duct tape

What you will need to do:

There are a few different ways that you can make a duct tape beach bag. Some are a bit easier and some are harder. To get the best look you will want to fold the tape closed on itself in the length, so you get several strips that will not stick to anything. Once you have these strips prepared you can interlace them to create your bag. For step by step instructions watch the YouTube video below.

Now, for our final project for the season! Whether you are relaxing on your hammock or unwinding at the beach, you might just need a pretty little flower pencil to jot down some notes in your journal, or to start planning your next duct tape project. You can decorate pens and pencils with – you guessed it – duct tape!

What you will need:

  • D’Afrique duct tape
  • Scissors
  • Pen or pencil

What you will need to do:

Cut pieces of duct tape into 5 cm pieces – this is only a rough estimate. Then fold the ends in on each other so they form point petals. The bottom part of the strip of tape should still be sticky and you can wrap it around the base of the pencil. Do this several times around the pencil and you will soon have a beautiful flower decorating the end of your writing utensil. You can also cut round petals for a different kind of flower. Play around and see how many different flowers you can create.
